Do you always keep your legs covered no matter summer or winter because you just can’t bare to show them? If so, this post is for you! Varicose and spider veins are painful and ugly, and the procedures to remove them very expensive. Don’t give up hope! There are natural ways to deal with these annoying and ugly things so read on.
What are spider or varicose veins?
They are twisted and enlarged veins close to the surface of the skin.
What causes them?
When the valves in the veins become weakened, it results in spider or varicose veins. As the valves stop working properly, blood collects in the legs and pressure builds up. This weakens the vein and it becomes large and twisted thus resulting in spider or varicose veins. Unfortunately they are hereditary, so if your mother has them, you will likely get them too. Other risk factors include age and pregnancy. Also, if you are overweight or have to sit or stand long periods of time may also be contributing factors.
What are the symptoms?
Some people have no symptoms at all but some can have any or all of the following:
- Burning sensation
- Swelling in feet and ankles
- Itching where the vein is
- Tiredness or aching
There are more serious symptoms like
- Leg swelling
- Skin changes (thinning, color change, dryness, inflammation and scaling)
- Open sores
- Calf pain and swelling after long periods of sitting or standing
Usually varicose veins are not dangerous but in some people they can be a sign of deep vein thrombosis so it’s always a good idea to visit your MD, especially if you are having symptoms listed in the more serious symptom category.

PLEASE NOTE: These results have been achieved by the use of doTERRA’s essential oils. I highly recommend that this regimen not be followed by using any other oil brand because of the CPTG standard that is strictly upheld by doTERRA. The CPTG standard insures each bottle of essential oil to be 100% pure and concentrated with a guarantee of exactness in composition and make up. This standard requires third party testing and is composed of five different tests completed on each liter of oil to insure purity and exactness. Because most oil manufacturers do not perform this level of testing, the safety of the oils cannot be quaranteed.
Warning: just because an essential oil is labeled to be 100% pure does not mean that it is.
If an essential oil demonstrates that it has all the required compounds that make up that oil, even though some or all of those compounds can be synthetic, the oil still can be labeled 100% pure.
Let’s talk a little about the 2 main oils in these recipes. Cypress is not only antibacterial, antimicrobial, anti-infectious
but it’s also a lymphatic decongestant. It’s refreshing, relaxing and vasoconstricting. It means that it causes the blood vessels to constrict, just like they do when you are cold. It may be beneficial in strengthening capillary walls and improving the circulatory system. It’s also great if you suffer from muscular cramps.
Helichrysum is an anticoagulant and antispasmodic just to mention a few. It can be used for lymph drainage, pain reduction, to regenerate tissue and to reduce inflammation and swelling. It has the ability to moderate natural fluid balance (natural hemostat).
Cypress and helichyrusm both have many more properties and many more uses. If you want to learn more about their amazing properties, please go here
